Mayor-elect moreno amended budget proposal

New Orleans is facing profound and structural fiscal challenges that will require disciplined leadership, strategic decision-making, and a commitment to delivering essential services. It is clear that the steps we take in the coming weeks are just the beginning of our work to return the city to firm financial footing. Mayor-elect Helena Moreno’s first and most persistent priority is delivering the full value of the basic services that New Orleanians deserve, and her work to repair the City’s financial situation is centered on that promise.

Mayor-elect Moreno’s proposal is a balanced budget that couples strategic revenue increases with reductions of excess Mayoral staff, realignments and strategic reorganization of city functions, and targeted cuts where necessary. The Mayor-elect is committed to delivering essential services, but to also protect hardworking, frontline city employees as much as possible. Many of these belt-tightening operations are temporary but necessary measures to address acute challenges. This fall, she will deliver a transparent, practical and efficient budget that reflects her promise to move the City in a new direction while resolving some of the immediate challenges left on her doorstep as she assumes office this January.
